The MMGC Experience
Discover a unique historical neighborhood of Athens that houses the precious collections of the Museum of Modern Greek Culture, one of the oldest museums of Greece.
At the foot of the Acropolis rock, in the southwest end of the picturesque quarter of Plaka and close to the Monastiraki square, a magical neighborhood has been preserved and houses the Museum of Modern Greek Culture. Nineteenth-century buildings bearing neoclassical and traditional elements of the Athenian houses are surrounded by inner courtyards and alleys and coexist with monuments and archaeological remains. The late roman wall of Athens, the byzantine church of St. Thomas, the gate and courtyard of the Chomatianos Logothetis residence, consul of England in ottoman Athens, the church of St. Elissaios, where the writer Alexandros Papadiamantis participated as cantor in vigils, the house of the politician and writer Nikolaos Dragoumis. The buildings of the complex house the new permanent exhibition of the Museum with objects of the modern Greek culture from the wider Greek geographical area and takes us on a journey through the last two centuries of Greek history!
Every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday three groups of five people have the opportunity to visit this unique historical neighborhood of Athens. From 20:00 until 22:00 they will live the memorable experience of wandering in a historical neighborhood, making a journey through time and the long history of the city of Athens. The tickets for the unique service “The MMGC Experience” are for individuals or groups of up to 5 people and include a special gift inspired by the Museum’s precious collections.
